Product Details

Abraham-Louis Breguet, born in 1747 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, revolutionized watchmaking during his illustrious career in Paris. Among his many groundbreaking inventions were the automatic watch, the gong spring for repeater watches, and the first shock-absorber device. His clientele included King Louis XVI, Queen Marie-Antoinette, and even Napoleon Bonaparte, cementing his legacy as one of history’s greatest horologists.

The Breguet Type XX is a testament to this heritage, inspired by the original Type 20 military specifications issued by the French Air Force in the 1950s. Many brands contributed to the Type 20 lineage, but none have matched the enduring prestige of Breguet.

In 1995, Breguet reissued the Type XX under reference 3800, giving the model a slight modern upgrade to a 39mm size while retaining the design's core DNA. This particular example is an exceptional tribute to the original, with its tritium lume lending it a distinct vintage charm. It’s as close as one can get to the 1950s Type XX, which now command prices in the $40,000 range.

This watch features a classic black dial with three subdials, pencil hands, and a glossy rotatable bezel, housed in a stainless steel “coin-edge” case. The heart of this timepiece is the automatic Caliber 582, derived from the Lémania Caliber 1350, and equipped with a flyback chronograph function.

This full set includes the original funky inner and outer boxes, booklet, hangtag, an unfilled certificate of origin, the original Breguet leather strap with a folding clasp, an additional Breguet leather strap, and a stainless steel Breguet bracelet. The watch has been fully serviced and is ready for its next chapter.

We adore the rugged tool-watch vibes of this chronograph, and this well-preserved set represents incredible value for a piece of horological history. Get in touch to make it yours!
